that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

BORN TWICE

Few things evoke more contemptuous laughter than the idea of a second birth, yet Jesus Christ declared, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God,” Jn 3:3, and must therefore enter hell.  Nor should anyone equate church membership, baptism, confirmation, communion, etc., with that essential new birth.  They aren’t the same thing!  It occurs when I admit that (1) I have no righteousness, (2) believe that Christ loved me enough to die in my place for my sins, (3) believe that in response to that belief, God pardons all my sin, bestows His gift of eternal life, and will receive me into heaven, as it is written, “He who believes on him (Christ) is not condemned: but he who believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed” (Jn 3:18).

Without that new birth, you’re going to hell, not heaven!

TOMORROW

For about a hundred and fifty thousand people (the number who die every day) there will be no tomorrow.  They will have gone into eternity.  What if today you should be one of them?  Have you prepared for that inevitable day that will end your life, and usher your soul into eternal bliss or torment, into heaven or hell?  To enter hell you have simply to continue as you are, for all are born on the road that leads there, Mt 7:13, but to enter heaven “You must be born again” Jn 3:3-7.  How?  Admit that you’re a sinner without any righteousness, Ro 3:23.  Believe that Christ loved you enough to die in your place, for your sins, Jn 3:16.  Believe that in response to that faith God will pardon all your sin, and receive you into heaven, Jn 3:17,36, but He warns,  Now is the accepted time; now is the day of salvation” 2 Cor 6:2.  Tomorrow may be too late!

 YOU REFUSE TO CHOOSE?

Whether you’ll be in heaven or hell eternally is your choice, for all are born on the road to hell, and can enter the road to heaven, only by choosing to accept Christ as personal Savior.

You reply, “I’m not going to make a choice just now.”

But you are!  You’ve already chosen, for not to accept Christ as your Savior is to reject Him.  There is no middle ground with God.  You are either saved, or lost; born again, or spiritually dead; reconciled to God, or His enemy; forgiven, or condemned; on the broad way, or the narrow; going to hell, or going to heaven.

What if this should be your last opportunity to choose Christ as your Savior?  What if your present choice not to accept Him becomes irrevocable?  God warns, “Now is the accepted time; now is the day of salvation” 2 Co 6:2.  Tomorrow may be too late!

 INCREDIBLE LIFE FORCE

“An incredible life force” was one sports writer’s description of superstar basketball player Hank Gathers, who himself said, “I’m the strongest man alive.”  Next day, at 23, he dropped dead.  God warns, “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth” Pr 27:1.

Death often comes suddenly, unexpectedly, and beyond death lies judgment, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” Heb 9:27, the warning relative to that judgment being, “Ye must be born again” Jn 3:7, for without a new birth, the result of that judgment is consignment to the eternal torment of the lake of fire, Rev 20:15.

COVERED WITH LEPROSY

A strange part of the Levitical law was that a man totally covered with leprosy was pronounced clean, but the partially covered man remained unclean, Le 13:12.

The explanation is, that like much of the OT, this teaches truth relative to sin, of which leprosy is a symbol.  The partially covered victim represents the self-righteous man who refuses to accept God’s charge that, “There is none righteous, no, not one .... For all have sinned” Ro 3:10; 6:23.  The totally covered leper represents the sinner who accepts God’s indictment, and admits that he hasn’t one shred of righteousness.  He who would be saved must make the same confession, and believe that when Christ died on the cross, it was in his place, for his sins, and that in response to that faith, God pardons all his sin, and will receive him into heaven.

WHAT IS A BELIEVER?

The Bible teaches that faith in Jesus Christ is all that is needed to save us from hell and fit us for heaven, yet many who do believe in Him have no assurance of salvation, while others do.  Why should two apparently similar beliefs produce opposite results?

It lies in the nature of the belief.  Few don’t believe in the historicity of Christ: His birth, sinless life, miracles, crucifixion, resurrection, etc.  The person sure of salvation believes these things, as does the unassured, but missing from the latter’s belief is belief of what is written about himself.  He doesn’t believe that his own sinful state has made Christ’s death necessary.  The assured believer does!

When the assured believer reads in Romans 3:10,23, “There is none righteous ... for all have sinned” he believes that it applies to him, as does also Ro 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord,” and as does Ro 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved,”

One may believe everything about Christ, but unless he also believes that he himself is the sinner for whom Christ died, he is an unbeliever of whom it is written, “He that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God,” John 3:18.

IF YOU DIE TODAY

... where will your soul be?  It will be in heaven if you’ve been born again, but in hell if you haven’t.  How is one born again?  Very simply:

(1) admit that you’re a sinner without any righteousness

(2) believe that when Christ died on the cross it was in your place for your sins

(3) believe that in response to that faith, God pardons all your sin and will receive you into heaven, “He who believes on Him (Christ) is not condemned: but he who believes not is condemned already” Jn 3:18.

Because you could die today - 150,000 do every day - God warns, “Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation” 2 Co 6:2.  You may not have a tomorrow.  With heaven so easily available, isn’t it madness to continue on the road to hell since unexpectedly you could arrive there today?

PLAYING HOOKY

Three little boys played hooky one day.  As they sat by the side of a quiet road a minister came along, and realizing what they were up to, said, “Don’t you boys want to go to heaven?”

Two of them said, “Yes,” but the third one said, “No, I don’t.”

“You don’t want to go to heaven when you die?” queried the minister in surprise.  “O, sure, I want to go when I die.  I thought you were getting up a crowd to go now,” replied the youngster.

It’s surprising how many people are like that little boy. They want to go to heaven when they die, but they’re enjoying life too much to want to go now.  Is that your attitude?  Then may I ask you to take just a minute to read the rest of this article?

Jesus Christ said that in order to enter heaven, “You must be born again” (John 3:7).  But what if you should die before being born again?  Then heaven is closed against you for ever, and you will be in hell till the end of Christ’s Millennial reign, and then in the lake of fire for ever (Revelation 20:11-15).  A sobering thought is it not?  Aren’t you taking a terrible chance?  You stand to lose your soul for ever, and gain - what?  The little boy wanted to postpone going to heaven till he’d had his fun.  What is it in your life that you put before making preparation for eternity?  Is it the pursuit of pleasure, wealth, fame?  It is from just such pursuits that death has called countless millions into eternity - into eternal exclusion from heaven, into eternal torment.  What if death should claim you before you’ve been born again by believing that Jesus Christ loved you enough to die in your place for your sins?

God warns, “NOW is the accepted time, NOW is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).  Tomorrow may be too late.  Tomorrow your soul could be in hell.

 THE CROWN OF THORNS

When Adam sinned God said, “Cursed is the ground for thy sake, thorns shall it bring forth” (Ge 3:17-18), so that those placed on Christ’s head by the Roman soldiers symbolized the transfer of the curse to Him, the last Adam, 1 Cor 15:45, Who was willing to be made a curse, Ga 3:13, and die to atone for Adam’s sin.

That atonement however, is effective only to those who believe that when He died it was in their place, for their sins.   And the faith must be confessed, as it is written, “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth ... and believe in thine heart ... thou shalt be saved,” Ro 10:9.  There is no such thing as a genuine secret believer!
